Nansemond-Suffolk names Larry Ward its new boys basketball coach

Larry Ward has stepped back into coaching after a six-year layoff to coach the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy boys basketball team, replacing Lamont Strothers. Ward stepped down as Cape Henry’s coach in 2011 after compiling a 388-137 career record. He won eight Tidewater Conference championships and four Metro Conference titles. He was the TCIS Coach of the Year five times and Metro Conference Coach of the Year four times.
“I wanted to get back into coaching, but it had to be the right place,” said Ward, who has coached only at basketball camps since leaving Cape Henry. "The opportunity came and I jumped on it.
