Farm Day gives Suffolk second-graders a chance to play in the dirt while learning

Suffolk students recently got to do things that grown-ups often tell them not to do: play in the dirt, handle bugs and eat sweets before meals. And they even got credit for it.
Second-graders from Suffolk’s 11 public elementary schools and Nansemond-Suffolk Academy went on field trips Nov. 16 and 17 to the Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center (AREC) on Hare Road where they attended the center’s annual Farm Day event.
