On Tuesday, June 23, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy held a Groundbreaking Ceremony to mark the start of construction for the new Harbour View Campus, which is scheduled to open for the 2016-2017 academic year.
The 22,500 sq. ft. Harbour View Campus is being designed by the Virginia Beach based firm HBA Architecture and will help meet the educational needs of the growing demographics in North Suffolk. With this new campus, NSA will be able to expand its ability to provide a top-quality, independent school education to more preschool and elementary age students. The Harbour View Campus will serve students in pre-kindergarten through grade three who will benefit from the same fully-accredited, college preparatory program that is offered at NSA’s main campus, but in an atmosphere closer to home.
"This expansion project will help set the course for NSA for the next 50 years. We are humbled by the generous support of the many donors who are making this project possible. What has for many years been a dream for NSA and the surrounding communities, will become a reality that demonstrates our commitment to make NSA second to none in the Commonwealth of Virginia in educational excellence," remarked Mrs. Deborah B. Russell, NSA's Head of School.
The project has been in the planning stages for the past several years. In November, the NSA Board of Trustees announced the launch of a $6 million capital campaign, Our Saints. Our Future. An Investment in Excellence. Campaign initiatives include the opening of the satellite Harbour View Campus, the creation of a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) Innovation Lab at the main campus, an enhanced STEM curriculum for students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 12, a Center for Academic Excellence to assist all students in reaching their academic potential, faculty professional development and capital improvements at the main campus to enhance athletics, the arts and security. To date, NSA has raised over $5.3 million toward the $6 million campaign goal.
