Visual and Performing Arts
Viewed as an integral part of a complete education, the arts can greatly enhance a child’s self-esteem and overall academic performance. From pre-kindergarten onward, students have many opportunities to explore the creative process, embrace imagination and cultivate an appreciation for the visual and performing arts. Along the way, passions and talents are unveiled in a way that can only happen in a nurturing community.
Visual Arts
Our Visual Arts Program strives to provide our students with the opportunity to create, present, connect, and respond to art through a variety of experiences and hands-on activities.
Music
The music program offers students many opportunities for enrichment through learning and performing music. Lower School students develop singing skills, play instruments and learn musical concepts through weekly classes and after-school enrichment opportunities. In middle and upper school, students are exposed to diverse musical experiences and literature aimed to prepare them for a deeper appreciation of and ability to participate in musical experiences in college and beyond.
Theatre
Theatre is a part of everyone's experience at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy. Lower School students are introduced to collaborative experiences through grade-level performances. As passions and talents are revealed, middle school students are encouraged to audition for the Winter Musical. Our stage crafts and theatre arts program offers Upper School students a comprehensive study of the theatre, including theatre history, production, design, improvisation, writing, directing and acting.
Art Show & Sale
Hosted on the Main Campus at the end of January, the Art Show and Sale is an annual celebration of the arts that attracts artists and art connoisseurs throughout Hampton Roads. Proceeds from the Art Show and Sale support Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s visual and performing arts programs. The show also introduces students to career opportunities in the arts and inspires them to explore their own creative abilities.
