The choral program at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy provides opportunities for the growth of each individual student: the opportunity to develop musical skills and talents, the opportunity to share with other students the excitement of performance and the opportunity to perform as a representative of NSA. In the Middle School, the choral program begins with the 6th Grade Chorus and continues on through 7th and 8th Grade. In the Upper School, we are comprised of two sections of chorus, the Intermediate Chorus, known as NoteWorthy, for all aspiring choral students, and the Advanced Chorus, known as VocalPoint, an auditioned group of sophomores through seniors. Performances include our winter and spring concerts, “Night on Broadway” for the Upper School and “Cabaret” for the Middle School, as well as singing throughout the community at various venues. Our spring trip takes us to various destinations including Nashville, where we performed last year at the Ryman Auditorium and recorded at Studio B.
The Band Program
The band program at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy offers students a dynamic environment with many opportunities for enrichment through learning and performing music. As the only independent school marching band in the area, the Marching Saints receive a great deal of recognition and foster school spirit wherever they go. The Marching Saints perform during football games, in local parades, in the community, and act as a pep band for winter sports. The concert band centers on learning great wind band literature, performing in the holiday and spring concerts, and at graduation. In addition, the band takes an annual trip in the spring for adjudications. The band program also includes jazz band, which meets weekly and performs in the school concerts and in the community.
