Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is more than a school. We are a community. An education at NSA is a journey that provides opportunities to excel academically, explore physical outlets through athletics and to express oneself artistically through the fine arts, all while fostering character to develop the whole child.
The NSA experience is defined by the little things that happen on our campuses each and every day. Located in Suffolk, Virginia, minutes from Portsmouth or Chesapeake, our sprawling 100-acre Main Campus features an outdoor classroom, a garden space where our Lower School students are taught a farm to table concept, multiple athletic fields, a full-service cafeteria, campuswide Wi-Fi and so much more. In the classroom, our students are challenged at an early age. In Kindergarten, they are taught Word Study, a new approach to teaching spelling that provides students with opportunities to investigate and understand the patterns in words. The Lower School curriculum also includes LEGO simple machines, science initiatives and after-school enrichment opportunities.
Beginning in the 6th grade, students are allowed to participate in athletics. NSA currently has over 50 teams, including lacrosse, sailing, swimming, football and more with 80% of our students participating. The Middle School also includes a 1:1 program, world language offerings, a LEGO robotics program and various community service and cultural experiences. In the Upper School, students participate in an Advisory Program, where they are mentored throughout their Upper School years. They also have the opportunity to hone their musical or artistic talents.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is the only private school in Hampton Roads that offers a marching band. Our College Counseling program facilitates acceptance to selective colleges and universities throughout the country. More importantly, students are involved in community service projects to build character and learn the importance of giving back to their community.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy invites families to visit at any time. By visiting during the academic year, families can encounter the full community of students, faculty and staff, and experience daily life at the school firsthand.
