Shane Rogers Johnson '26 is working to make sure Hampton Roads residents live heart healthy after he was selected as a local American Heart Association youth heart ambassador.
Shane is one of three youth heart ambassadors selected from the Hampton Roads region. He and other youth ambassadors share how heart disease and stroke have impacted their lives, while encouraging others to establish healthy habits to better mental and physical well-being.
The American Heart Association invited applicants ages 2 to 19 who have been affected by heart disease or stroke to submit their stories online for the opportunity to serve as a youth heart ambassador. More than 200 young people from across the country submitted applications.
Shane recently joined his fellow Hampton Roads youth heart ambassadors and the Triple-A Champion Norfolk Tides in helping spread the word about upcoming local Heart Walks, which help raise money to conduct more heart-related research and train more people in lifesaving CPR. The Peninsula Heart Walk will be held on November 4 at Fort Monroe, and the Southside Heart Walk will be held on November 11 at Chesapeake City Park. You can register for the events now on the American Heart Association's website.
Congratulations to Shane! We are so proud of the work you're doing with the American Heart Association!
