Each spring, NSA's Upper School students transform the Thomas W. Johnson Gymnasium in the Beazley Center into an amazing gallery for Portfolio, our annual student art and photography show. This year, the show consisted of nearly 975 pieces that highlighted our students' exceptional talent.
Special thanks to Mary Bauswell and Abby Reed for serving as jurors this year. Mrs. Bauswell is a graduate of Christopher Newport University, concentrating in 3D art, pottery and photography. She also has her master's degree in art therapy and counseling from Eastern Virginia Medical School. As an art therapist, Mrs. Bauswell uses creative expression to support mental health, helping individuals of all ages in inpatient and outpatient settings, including alternative schools. She currently works at Lakeland High School, where she is the visual arts teacher. Ms. Reed received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in arts and visual technologies with a concentration in drawing from George Mason University. She is currently a practicing artist and serves as the education coordinator with the Suffolk Art League. Ms. Reed is primarily a painter and linocut printmaker, and she has exhibited her artwork locally and in the Washington, D.C., metro area. In her role with the Suffolk Art League, Ms. Reed creates and implements all educational programs from classes and workshops to artist residencies, and assists with exhibition curation.
