Kudos to Alexandra Stenson ’24 for being selected to participate in a two-week summer residential program at Virginia Tech, Black Engineering Excellence at Virginia Tech (BEE VT)!
Sponsored by the College of Engineering’s Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED), the program is open to rising junior and senior high school students. Applicants were chosen to participate based on their demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, extracurricular involvement and essay submissions. BEE VT offers participants the opportunity to explore the many facets of engineering and make connections with other students who share their same interests, while also learning about college life–from residence halls to classrooms and everything in-between. Presented by faculty and graduate students from a wide variety of engineering departments, attendees participate in hands-on activities that are designed to increase their interest and knowledge of applications of engineering to real-world situations. They attend informational sessions on topics such as college admissions and scholarships, career planning and the engineering majors offered at Virginia Tech. The program culminates in a showcase on the final afternoon, where the participants share engineering design projects. Congratulations, and best of luck this summer, Alexandra!
