Office of Advancement Welcomes Two Familiar Faces

Members of the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Office of Advancement

As we start the new year, the Office of Advancement is adding two new staff members, who many of you may recognize.

Megan Korving is making the transition from Lower School teaching assistant to records and stewardship coordinator, and current parent Marcia Tabet has been named as our new alumni and community engagement coordinator. The Office of Advancement is thrilled to welcome both Megan and Marcia to the team! You can get to know them better in a brief Q&A below.

Megan Korving, Records and Stewardship Coordinator

Q: Tell us more about your previous experience.

A: I began working at NSA in August 2022 as a fourth grade teaching assistant. I had been a stay-at-home mom for the last 14 years, and prior to starting a family, I was a first grade teacher. While I was a stay-at-home mom, I spent a lot of time working with nonprofits. Now, I am the stewardship and records coordinator in the Office of Advancement. I already knew what a wonderful community NSA offered to students and families, and I have absolutely enjoyed it from the perspective of a staff member.

Q: What inspired you to make the transition from the classroom to the Office of Advancement?

A: I knew it was the perfect position to merge my education and non-profit experience. While I do miss the day-to-day interactions with the kids, I know I can use this opportunity to enhance their education and the experience provided to teachers and families.

Q: As the records and stewardship coordinator, what will your day-to-day duties look like?

A: My primary role is to ensure that all donations that come into our school are properly recorded and that the appropriate gratitude and recognition is expressed to donors. I also get to work with the spectacular advancement team on events to raise funds for the school and engage our families, students and alumni.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish in your new role?

A: I would like to continue to expand on the high level of professionalism and culture already established. I hope to contribute fresh ideas for engagement and establish relationships to further the mission of our great school to benefit all of our children.

Q: What is one thing that made you smile recently?

A: With the Office of Advancement being so close to the Nancy Russell Auditorium, I could hear the excitement of the kids who were experiencing an interactive science presentation. I love that they are getting the opportunity to be so excited and engaged while learning. Although I wasn’t able to see the program, I even received pictures from a teacher of one of my kids joining in on a demonstration. None of this would be possible without such an engaged and generous community.

Marcia Tabet, Alumni and Community Engagement Coordinator

Q: Tell us more about your previous experience in independent schools.

A: I began working as a substitute teacher at Christopher Academy and then became a third grade teaching assistant 12 years ago. I went on to work in the front office while teaching second grade geography and social studies. Most recently, I worked as the school's director of advancement. I was in charge of the fundraising for the school, running the annual auction, the annual giving campaign and various fundraisers throughout the year. I loved working with the students and families, because I found it to be so rewarding. I made wonderful friends along the way and will always have special bonds with them.

Q: What made you want to take on the alumni and community engagement coordinator position here at NSA?

A: I wanted to take on this new role because I wanted to continue to work with students and their families. I already know some members of the Saints community through my three children, who all have attended NSA. Our oldest son, Adam, graduated in 2022. Our second son, Ryan, is a senior in the Class of 2023. Our daughter, Christina, is a member of the Class of 2026. I look forward to seeing some familiar faces, both at events here at NSA as well as at our On the Road Reunions in various college towns. I'm also excited to get to know more families at NSA in the near future.

Q: What will your day-to-day duties look like?

A: I will be helping the Office of Advancement with all of their events, which includes the Art Show and Sale, On the Road Reunions, graduation and other events. Currently, I'm helping with the Art Show and Sale, updating addresses for the annual giving campaign and planning events for the Class of 2023.

Q: What kind of events, initiatives or programs do you want to start and continue here at NSA?

A: Of course, I want to continue the activities that make the students and families feel special and that are unique to NSA. I am interested in getting the behind-the-scenes view of the Art Show and Sale, 100 days to graduation, graduation and the Fleur-de-E@uction. I'm also excited to participate in our On the Road Reunions and meet with alumni. As a team, we are also looking at new activities and events where we could involve students and their families. Stay tuned!
