Nico Yates Officially Commits to Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University

Nico Yates '24 signs letter of intent to continue lacrosse career at Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University

The Office of Athletics recently celebrated Nico Yates '24, who signed a letter of intent to continue his lacrosse career with Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University.

Nico made his commitment with the Eagles official on Nov. 17 during a ceremony in the Thomas W. Johnson Gymnasium in the Beazley Center. Nico's family, coaches, teammates, friends, faculty and staff were all in attendance.

"To me, the really unique and special piece about this whole process for Nico is that he is going to Embry–Riddle, and that is where he wanted to go to school, whether lacrosse was part of the equation or not," said Director of Athletics and Varsity Boys' Lacrosse Coach T.W. Johnson '92, acknowledging Nico's passion for aviation. "So for their coaching staff to be getting a person who can't wait to wake up to go to classes at Embry–Riddle and have a good lacrosse player on top of that is really an ideal situation."

Coach Johnson reflected on Nico's lacrosse career and the progress he made in Upper School, especially between his freshman and sophomore year.

"I think his confidence and his success has only grown from there," said Coach Johnson. "Having him as a member of the team all the way through the program has been a great pleasure and a privilege."

While Nico has solidified his college plans, he still has his final season of lacrosse at NSA ahead of him, with the team's sights set on another run in the VISAA tournament in 2024.

"Your best lacrosse is certainly in front of you," said Coach Johnson. "There's no doubt about that. You've had a huge impact on our program. I'm glad we're not done yet, but we're excited about this day and your future."

Congratulations to Nico, and best of luck to our Saints lacrosse team this spring!
