Student-Athletes Nominated for Athlete of the Month

Bola Orenuga '23 and Kayla Kosiorek '24, NSA's Sept Athlete of the Month nominees

Get ready to cast your vote! The Suffolk News-Herald has launched an Athlete of the Month contest, and our student-athletes need your support!

Each month through May, the Office of Athletics will nominate one female student-athlete and one male student-athlete. Other schools across Suffolk will do the same. The Suffolk News-Herald then posts all the nominees online on the first Wednesday of the month, and the public spends two weeks voting for who should be honored as Athlete of the Month.

Voting is open now for September's Athlete of the Month. It will close September 21. The female student-athlete and male student-athlete with the most votes will be featured in the Suffolk News-Herald on the last Sunday of the month. They'll also receive a special award in June.

This month, tennis player Kayla Kosiorek '24 and soccer player Bola Orenuga '23 have been nominated.

Kayla has played tennis for several years as NSA's no. 1 seed. Last season, she was named named First Team All-TCIS in singles, Second Team All-TCIS in doubles and First Team All-VISAA. She was the team's Most Valuable Player in 2021.

Bola scored three goals in the first game of this season. Last season, he was selected First Team All-TCIS and Second Team All-VISAA. He is currently being recruited to play soccer at the collegiate level.
