Linda Gerek Named Featured Artist for the 2026 NSA Art Show and Sale

Linda Gerek

A familiar face will serve as featured artist for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's 40th annual Art Show and Sale! Linda Gerek, who you will often find substitute teaching in NSA's Lower School, will headline the event, which will take place January 24, 2026 through February 1, 2026 in the Lower School at the Main Campus.

Linda worked as an art teacher with Virginia Beach City Public Schools for nearly 30 years before she retired and became a full-time artist. As an outdoor enthusiast, she often paints wherever she vacations and travels. Hiking, kayaking and camping all help her absorb what is around her. When she paints, Linda tries to capture and reflect her sense of connectedness with nature. Natural light and its constant changing effect create moments in time that inspire her.

Linda considers her art contemporary realism. She says the subject matter is realistic, but she tries to figure out how to make it more than that.

"I often lean toward subtle (or not so subtle) abstraction by exploring various surface textures, enhanced or subdued lighting and color interpretations," says Linda.

Whether she is painting with oil, acrylic or watercolor, Linda hopes that what she sees and portrays in her work encourages viewers to look with appreciation and gratitude toward nature and see the environment with a fresh perspective.
