Isaiah Fuhrmann Celebrates National Signing Day by Officially Committing to Elon University

Isaiah Fuhrmann '24 signs letter of intent to continue football career at Elon University

On National Signing Day 2023, Isaiah Fuhrmann '24 put pen to paper as he signed his letter of intent to continue his football career with Elon University.

Isaiah made his commitment with Elon official during a ceremony in the Thomas W. Johnson Gymnasium in the Beazley Center on National Signing Day, which fell on Dec. 20, the last day before NSA's winter break. Isaiah's family, coaches, teammates, friends, faculty and staff were all in attendance.

"As a teacher and a coach, this is Christmas," said Varsity Football Coach Mike Biehl. "This is the Super Bowl. This is why we do everything we do. We do this to see guys like this reach their full potential, reach their goal and go forward. This is what it's all about."

Isaiah had received offers to continue his academic and athletic career at 11 Division I schools before announcing his verbal commitment to Elon on Nov. 13. During his signing ceremony, Coach Biehl recognized Isaiah's family, teammates, teachers and the NSA administration, who all helped play a role in helping Isaiah reach this next level. However, Coach Biehl noted it was Isaiah's determination that ultimately set him apart from other players.

"Isaiah is a representation of what happens when you have faith and you put that faith to work," said Coach Biehl. "It's one of those things that we've had a bunch of conversations about, where everyone wants to be successful. You ask every kid that plays sports, 'What do you want to do?' They say, 'I want to win a championship.' You ask kids, 'What do you want to do after high school?' They say, 'I want to play Division I sports.' The difference is very few people are willing to sacrifice and do the things necessary to make it actually happen, because it's not glorious. It's not fun. You have to sacrifice the things that normal people do on a regular basis to make it happen, and that's what Isaiah has done."

While Isaiah has solidified his college plans, Coach Biehl took time during his signing ceremony to let him know there would always be a special place for him in the Saints community.

"Isaiah, you're going to find a new home at Elon," said Coach Biehl. "It's a great place. They're so lucky to have you. But you'll always have a home here, because you're family, and we're so proud of you."

Congratulations to Isaiah! We can't wait to see all that you accomplish at Elon!
