Isaiah Fuhrmann '24 announces decision to play football at Elon

The Office of Athletics recently celebrated Isaiah Fuhrmann '24, who announced his decision to continue his football career with Elon University.

Isaiah made his college decision public on Nov. 13 during an event in the Thomas W. Johnson Gymnasium in the Beazley Center. Isaiah's family, coaches, teammates, friends, faculty and staff were all in attendance.

"This is a little bit different than a signing ceremony because when we do a signing ceremony, we know where the individual is heading," said Director of Athletics T.W. Johnson '92. "Today, we don't know, so there's some excitement surrounding that."

Isaiah had received offers to continue his academic and athletic career at 11 Division I schools. Prior to this event, he announced that he had narrowed his choices to the United States Military Academy West Point, University at Buffalo, Old Dominion University, Elon University, Howard University and the Virginia Military Institute.

"I'm just proud of where you're at now and where you're going," said Varsity Football Coach Mike Biehl. "What you mean to us, what you mean to this program, what you mean to this community, what you mean to me is more than I can express, and I can't wait to see what the future holds."

Isaiah took time to address the crowd before making his announcement.

"I want to thank the NSA community for accepting me my freshman year and making this really home," said Isaiah. "Thank you to all my coaching staff and all the teams I've played for in developing my skillset. I want to thank my family, of course, for pushing me through it all, and my parents for the long drives, and the tournaments, and the camps and risking it all for me. I'm so grateful for you all from the bottom of my heart."

With suspense in the air, Isaiah stood up, put on an Elon University hat, and unzipped his jacket to reveal an Elon University polo shirt.

"With that being said, I'll be continuing my academic and athletic career at Elon University," announced Isaiah, as applause filled the gym.

Congratulations to Isaiah! We're so excited for all that awaits you at Elon!
