Faith Garcia Officially Commits to ODU Women's Golf Program

Faith Garcia '23 poses with family after signing letter of intent with ODU women's golf program

The Office of Athletics recently celebrated Faith Garcia '23, who signed a letter of intent to continue her golf career with the Old Dominion University Women's Golf program.

Faith made her commitment with the Monarchs official on Feb. 17 during a ceremony in the Thomas W. Johnson Gymnasium in the Beazley Center. Faith's parents, sister Hope '23, coaches, teammates, friends, faculty and staff were all in attendance.

"What is happening today is the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication from Faith, her sister and her family," said Varsity Golf Coach Tom Harry. "She's a great teammate, and she's extremely easy to coach. Her course management skills are fantastic. She's a student of the game and understands exactly what she needs to do on the course."

Coach Harry reflected on Faith's career at NSA, which included All-State and All-Conference honors the past two years as well as being named player of the year in 2021. At more than 90% of NSA's matches in the last two years, Faith has been the medalist, which means she shot the lowest score for the team. She was also part of the 2022 state championship golf team.

"Academically, Faith is just as good as she is at golfing," added Coach Harry. "She's fantastic in the classroom."

Faith's commitment is good news for Saints fans, who may be able to catch some of her matches with the Monarchs over the next few years. "There's going to be a chance for us to watch Faith play collegiate golf, since some of her matches will be at Cedar Point Club," said Director of Athletics T.W. Johnson '92. "That's certainly a home course advantage for Faith, since she's very familiar with it."

While Faith has solidified her college plans, she still has her final season of golf at NSA ahead of her. Practices are already underway, with the team's sights set on another victorious season. "Obviously Faith was a huge part of the golf team winning the state championship last year," said Coach Johnson. "We would love to see another number on that banner by the end of May."

Congratulations to Faith, and best of luck to our Saints golf team this spring!
