The end of April always brings a pop of color to NSA's Upper School, as our annual student art and photography show, Portfolio, takes over the Thomas W. Johnson Gymnasium in the Beazley Center. This year's show consisted of approximately 800 pieces that highlighted our students' work throughout the year.
Special thanks to Beth Gardner Blanchard '95 and Stephanie Gwaltney for serving as jurors this year. After graduating from NSA, Mrs. Blanchard went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Campbell University. She taught art in schools for several years before she began teaching oil painting classes at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts. Mrs. Blanchard is also a member of the Suffolk Plein Air Society. She is a professional artist, currently residing in the Suffolk area. Mrs. Gwaltney has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art and painting, with a minor in art history, from Old Dominion University, and a master's degree from Hampton University. She taught art in schools for 15 years, until COVID-19 hit. She then left teaching and started her own business, Art Ventures, where she teachers art to people of all ages.
Congratulations to the exhibiting and award-winning artists, and to Mrs. Mason '80 and Mrs. Sanchez for another amazing show!
