Alumni Receive Small Business of the Year Honors

Congratulations to Max Greenhood ’07 and to Jennifer Griffin Groves ’94, whose businesses, Rocketbike and Embroidery Etc., were named small businesses of the year by the Hampton Roads Chamber and the Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads, a chamber affiliate.

Rocketbike, a digital advertising agency, was named Portsmouth’s Small Business of the Year and was founded by Max at the age of 23. Embroidery Etc., which is owned and operated by Jennifer, was named Suffolk’s Small Business of the Year. The screen printing and embroidery shop has been located in downtown Suffolk since 2007.

For 38 years, the Hampton Roads Chamber has celebrated the region’s small businesses with the annual Small Business of the Year Awards. Businesses were nominated by chamber members, then a panel of judges selected a business from each area. The businesses were evaluated based on their history and philosophy, financial performance, employee training and motivation, community involvement, business plan and growth as well as customer services and satisfaction.
