Violet Johnston '23 has been recognized as an emerging young leader in Hampton Roads.
On June 22, Violet and other young people in Hampton Roads were honored during a ceremony at Hub 757 as members of the Hampton Roads Workforce Council's Top 20 Under Twenty list. Any teen in Hampton Roads between the ages of 13 and 19 is eligible. The list is comprised of young people whose achievements in the workforce or the community stand out from their peers and who are excelling beyond what would be expected at the person’s age. The Hampton Roads Workforce Council considers those on its 20 under Twenty list as rising leaders in the 757 region.
According to the Hampton Roads Workforce Council's website, nominees for the 20 Under Twenty list take charge and motivate within their place of employment, demonstrate leadership, take initiative and seek innovative solutions to work-related challenges. Nominees also demonstrate an ability to utilize available resources, knowledge and connections with community members to create value in Hampton Roads through the launching of their own business or nonprofit ventures. 20 Under Twenty nominees also provide valuable service by contributing significant time and energy into the community, including but not limited to volunteering and civic engagement.
