Summer Reading 2008 English IV, 11th Grade

Required Reading:

The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger

While reading the text, prepare notes in an outline format. The outline will be due on Monday, August 25. The outline should be typed. You will take a test on The Catcher in the Rye within the first week of school, and an in-class essay on the themes in the novel during the second week of school. Be sure to consider the following when taking your notes:

  1. Characters’ names
  2. Settings
  3. Possible themes (3)
  4. Memorable quotes (5-10)
  5. Plot (exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution)
  6. Symbols and meanings (3-5)
