Required Reading 1:
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

Assignment:
You will take a test on The Catcher in the Rye the second week of school.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.

Assignment:
While reading the novel, make notes on the following:

• Possible controversies surrounding the novel
• Examples of immoral behavior
• Examples of irony and satire
• Huck’s changing view toward Jim

You will write an in-class essay on Huckleberry Finn the first week of school. I will give you the topic the day the essay is to be written.
