AP Modern European Histony
Summer Reading Assignment

Dear AP Students,
I am very excited about AP MEH and I hope that you are. As you know, summer reading is a requirement in this AP course. I think you will find both of the summer assignments to be enjoyable educational experiences!

PART I – DUE AUGUST 18
The first required reading is Brunelleschi’s Dome: How a Genius Reinvented Architecture, by Ross King. The book is available at most major bookstores, but it will probably be easiest to order it online. King's work is an incredibly informative volume of history. I think you will find it entertaining and enlightening. Please submit a critique of the work that adequately addresses Brunelleschi’s work during the Renaissance (see attached for prompt). Your critique should be at least three pages and no more than four. Detailed instructions are attached. Your critique is due to Mrs. Cross by August 18, 2008 and should be either mailed to NSA or turned in to the front office.

PART II – DUE AUGUST 25 and SEPTEMBER 2
The second assignment involves reading from the textbook, The Western Heritage. Students should read Chapter 9 (pages 292-314) in its entirety and complete the attached term list for the first day of school. Students should also read pages 318–334 in Chapter 10 and complete the attached term sheet. The term sheet for the reading in Chapter 10 will not be due until September 2. Students should buy their textbooks from 2007-2008 AP MEH students ASAP. New and used textbooks are available for purchase in the front office of the Upper School.

I hope that all of you have a fantastic and relaxing summer and return refreshed and ready for an exciting school year next fall. Please feel free to contact me via email with any questions. Happy reading!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kate Cross
