Honor Code

All aspects of everyday life at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy are governed by an Honor Code that fosters an environment of trust for students, faculty, and staff alike.

Since our founding, the word Honor has illuminated our path as a community of standards and purpose.  Behaving and being honorable is not easy in a world where technologies and moral ambiguity seem to grow more invasive as years succeeds years.  This is why the underpinning of our Honor Code is so important to our community.  It is why we have two distinct bodies in the Honor Council and Judiciary Committee to help guide, teach and illuminate this path we choose to walk together.

Joining the NSA community means that one chooses to be among others who are like-minded in moving within a community that works to achieve honorable ends.  And it also means that when one moves beyond the fields, classrooms and stages of NSA, each carries into the world the convictions we espouse: do what is right, and avoid that which is wrong.

Honor Council

As a responsible member of the student body of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, I realize that everything I do must be above reproach. I will be honest with myself and with others. I will refrain from all acts of cheating, lying and stealing, and I will not tolerate those acts from others. I will actively encourage my fellow students to follow the highest standards of integrity.

I understand that all students enrolled at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy give their expressed and implied consent to be governed by the Honor Code.

If I am accused of violating any provision of the Honor Code, I fully understand that I will be tried by the Honor Council and subject to consequences.

Judicial Committee

Discipline cases are difficult for everyone involved, yet the guiding principle of discipline at NSA is to balance the learning of the individual student with the values of the community. NSA seeks a process that works with families and students to reach the best outcome for all involved, yet maintains our commitment to high ethical and community standards. Designed to promote student responsibility and accountability, the Judicial Committee is comprised of 5 faculty members and 5 student members. The role of the Judicial Committee is review more serious violations of school rules and recommend a course of action to the Dean of Students.
