Virginia Young Readers

The Lower School Godwin Library participates in the Virginia Young Readers Program each year. The purpose of the program is to:

  • encourage young readers to become better acquainted with contemporary books with outstanding literary appeal.
  • to broaden students awareness of literature as a life-long pleasure.
  • to encourage reading aloud in classrooms as a means of introducing reading for pleasure.

To honor favorite books and authors Students in kindergarten through second grade listen to the stories in the library and vote for their favorite book on a special voting day in March.

Third through seventh grade students participate in the program on an optional basis. If they read five or more of the books at their appropriate reading level, they are eligible to vote for their favorite book.
