The library media program at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is based on the belief that each student should achieve information literacy, thereby creating a foundation for lifelong learning. The program seeks to guide students in acquiring the skills necessary to effectively access and evaluate information and to become ethical users and producers of this information. In accordance with the philosophy of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy for our students to be well- informed, responsible, and compassionate citizens, the goal is for students not only to satisfy intellectual curiosity through the acquisition of information, but to use the acquired information for problem-solving and for becoming productive contributors to society. NSA's two libraries are the center of academic life. The libraries serve as resource centers for the academic needs of both students and faculty. Students find information in a variety of formats from print to electronic and audiovisual resources. The libraries are fully automated with over 25,000 volumes in the electronic card catalog, Athena. The Upper School library, newly located in the middle building, serves grades six through twelve. With two instructional areas equipped with latest audiovisual technology, students and teachers have access to all the tools necessary for becoming information literate. In addition to the teaching areas, there are desktop computers and wireless laptops for research and projects located throughout the library. The Becky Godwin (Lower School) Library serves grades pre-school through five. With primary and upper elementary story time and instructional areas, students are introduced to children's literature and information literacy. Within the library, there is also a computer lab for research and projects. NSA Code of Conduct |
