Special emphasis on the college preparatory curriculum continues in grades 6 and 7. Academic instruction involves an integrated approach to English, mathematics, social studies and science. A combination of departmentalized/team teaching and differentiated scheduling provides a smooth transition to the Upper School program.
Additional features of the 6th and 7th grade program include:
- Laboratory classes in science and computer
- 9-week skills classes including art, music, study skills, foreign language, journalism, photography, keyboarding, current events, personal finance, public speaking, history of dance, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens
- Advisory program that focuses on personal development, peer relationships and community service
- Daily physical education classes
- Intramural program that stresses participation and skill development
- Beginning and intermediate band and chorus
- Refinement of all organizational and study skills that are taught in the Lower School
