NOTES FROM ALL AROUND

It is hard to believe that this is our last newsletter of the year. We have had a wonderful year with your children and we hope that they also have enjoyed their mornings and afternoons with us.

Please note our end of the year calendar for changes in the Extended Day calendar. May 16 is our last noon dismissal day in Extended Care. We will celebrate with an End of the Year Ice Cream Party. May 23, Senior Day is a noon dismissal day but Extended Care is closed on that day. NSA is closed on May 26 in honor of Memorial Day. There is no Holiday Care available on that day. The last day for Early School is May 28; Extended Care is opened to Early School children on that afternoon. May 29 is the last day for kindergarten and Extended Care is opened for kindergarten children on that day. May 29 is also the last day for Supervised Study and Extended Care. Class picnics are May 30 followed by Lower School closing.

May 28 is also the last day that we can accept reservations for our Busch Gardens trip on June 11. Summer programs open on June 9. Don’t miss the fun! Several camps are full and others have only a few remaining openings.

Again I thank you for sharing your precious children with us this year. We hope that all of you have a safe and fun-filled summer. We look forward to seeing a lot of you during the summer at camp and seeing everyone back again in August for another great year.

MISS MARCIA’S GROUP
2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade Boys

I can hardly believe another exciting year is about to come to a close! I have had a great time with my boys. I will be saying good-bye to my fourth grade boys, some of whom I have had for three years. It has been a joy to watch them grow and mature.

We have made the most of these beautiful afternoons spending much of our time playing outdoors. Dodge ball has been their favorite game the last few weeks.

I hope everyone has a relaxing and safe summer. See you in the fall!

Marcia Cooper

4:30 GROUP
5th, 6th, & 7th Grades

We have all heard that time files and doesn’t stand still. How true that is, and it has proved itself again for our extended care school year. In only four weeks we’ll be finished for the year but will hopefully see a lot of the children in camp this summer.

Each day they are eager to go out in the beautiful weather and when the weather won’t allow us outside, we still have a good day inside. After Supervised Study, the children are ready to move and get some energy out. They are especially enjoying basketball and soccer in the afternoon.

We hope that everyone will have a wonderful fun-filled summer and we’ll be enjoying your children again soon!

MS. CHERYL AND MS. ANITA’S NOOK
First Grade

Whew! Is it May already? My how time flies when you’re having fun. April was a fun-filled and busy month. Our friends have really enjoyed the dry erase board, playing with the cars and trucks, and tossing beanbags. Car-Mania has been a popular indoor activity. Everyone has had a lot of fun playing “Go Fish”, “Old Maid”, and “War”. The game “First Grade Feud” has been both challenging and interesting. With two teams competing against each other, it definitely has been a battle of the brains. Win or lose, it was a great educational experience. Our favorite books this month were Sammy the Seal and The Secret Three.

Outside, caterpillar hunting has been an adventuresome pastime for our friends. They made “homes” for their fuzzy friends, named them, and even had races with them.

A special thanks to our helpers this month, Kirtley Arnold, Bryce Daniels, Lauren Kattman, and William Marks. Best wishes to our April birthday friends, Abby Carlson, Alex Wilkerson, and Hunter Sznoloch.

It is so hard to believe that there is only one more month before school is out for the summer. Our class intends to enjoy every day together until then. We sincerely appreciate you, the parents, for entrusting your children to our care. It has been our pleasure having each of them in our class and watching them grow and mature.

Have a fun filled and safe summer.

MORNING CARE

The Early School and Kindergarten Morning Care Class has had a busy month. Kickball, dance, exercise and games have been so much fun. We are always on the move getting out some of the energy before school each morning. The first through seventh graders are having a blast playing soccer and dodge ball.

Happy Spring!

2nd, 3rd, AND 4th, GRADE SAINTS

It hardly seems possible that this is our last month of Extended Care. The girls have really worked hard during their homework time. They have always been eager to help when asked and they certainly have made many nice friends after school.

Hopefully in May we will only see sunshine and a lot of happy faces. We have a few artists that really enjoy making sidewalk chalk pictures. We have had fun-playing Hopscotch, too!

We want to thank you for allowing us to enjoy your child during Extended Care! They have been a great group of girls!

THE CURIOUS CREW
Kindergarten

This month has been fun. The children have enjoyed the sporting activities, show and tell, playing outside, nature walks, and had great fun with other groups during outdoor play.

The children enjoyed sitting in the bleachers watching the Upper School baseball games. They were really anxious about the Saints winning their games. We also enjoyed watching the lacrosse game on the football field.

The children enjoyed playing jump rope with the other groups. It was so much fun and some of our friends had never jumped rope before.

During show and tell the children shared what they wanted to be when they grow up. There were doctors, lawyers, truck drivers, dancers, singers, and many more careers.

We will continue to spring into the great fun in Extended Care with the Curious Crew.

MISS DEBBIE’S LITTLE COOKIE CRUMB SNATCHERS
Early School

As the old saying goes, “Time flies when you are having FUN”, and we totally agree. How fast tis year has zoomed by! We cannot believe that it won’t be long before we will be saying good-bye to each other for the summer.

There is so much that we want to do together before the year ends. It is always exciting to learn how do new things. On many afternoons we have stopped to study the sky, grass, trees, and flowers. We have discussed the different blend of many colors. On rainy days, we have enjoyed using our artistic abilities to imitate the work of nature. The children have done a wonderful job blending colors in their pictures adding interest to their beautiful sunsets, wispy flowers and blades of grass. The children also made a purple octopus mobile, with different kinds of fish and marine life that they colored dangling below.

I shared a story of the solar system. We discussed a little bit about the colorful planets, moon, sun, and stars.
Afterwards the children colored a moon, sun, and stars.

We have been trying to learn how to jump rope again. I am so pleased that all the children have done a GREAT job. We first needed to jump around like rabbits, remembering to get our feet up off the ground. Then each child helped me turn the long rope, listening to the sound of it hitting the ground. We leaned a few jump rope songs to get the rhythm and each child had a turn trying, until they actually succeeded. They would look at me, and jump when I said, “JUMP, JUMP, JUMP!” There were lots of giggles and tired children by the end of the day. The next day when the two older groups in our building came out and saw my “Little Cookie Crumb Snatchers” jumping as we counted each jump, they all wanted to give it a try. I even remembered how to show the children how you run in and out while my co-workers turned the rope for me. It was fun for me to have the opportunity to share this with the children. I told them that it will help to keep their heart healthy and their legs strong plus it is fun being together.

This month we will be growing some tasty herbs in a terrarium. The children took part in planting and watering the tiny seeds. We are growing basil, sage, parsley, dill, chives, and cilantro. Hopefully we will have enough for all of us to have a taste.

I have sent a “Kid Friendly Job Chart” about my room, my school, my family and myself. We have discussed the different jobs and how each one of us can be a helper. Please return the chart by May 5.

This has been a wonderful year for me being with your precious little ones in the afternoon. Thanks for the memories! Have a GREAT summer!

Love,
Debbie Chappell
