NSA is committed to promoting multicultural appreciation at the school. The school has examined diversity in its enrollment, employment, and curriculum as it relates to race, religion, gender, age and handicapped status. The entire NSA community is becoming more aware of the benefits of a culturally diverse school population. Special programs with the Norwegian Exchange Program, student travel abroad, and the annual Lower School Interdisciplinary Studies Program increase cultural awareness. The education of students with disabilities is constantly being examined. Cultural Enrichment Programs enhance the multicultural curriculum in both Upper and Lower Schools through theatrical performances and in-class workshops. The inclusion of multicultural diversity in the curriculum has become a viable focus at NSA. Within the school population, the socio/economic diversity, cultural diversity, racial diversity, religious diversity, and diversity of interests and talents make the NSA experience a rich one, indeed. NorwayThe International Exchange Program at NSA enhances the school's curriculum with real life experiences. This reciprocal program enables the student to do familiar and new things in a different language, a different culture and in a new community. During the fall months, Norwegian students enjoy visiting their American counterparts while NSA students visit their Norwegian friends in the spring. HaitiThe Haiti Awareness Group at NSA is an organization established to raise awareness about Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The group works to publicize current events about the country's condition through bulletin boards, club meetings, speakers, and relationship with the Maison Fortune Orphanage in Hinche. |
