Visual Arts

Lower School Art instruction is provided for every student in Kindergarten through the 7th grade. Students explore not only a variety of medium, principles and elements of design, but also incorporate the study and interpretation of great artists. The students then recreate works of both traditional as well as contemporary artists using their styles and techniques.

The Upper School Art Department offers a diversified curriculum to foster the growth of the students' aesthetic world. The classes provide opportunities for all students from the beginner to the most talented. Offerings include four levels of art, two levels of photography, and Advanced Placement Studio Art. Students have multiple opportunities to exhibit and compete in area and regional shows.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy students were very successful in the recent Sister Cities art and poetry competition. Suffolk's Sister Cities are Oderzo, Italy and Suffolk, England.
