Admissions Process

Office of Admissions Welcomes You!

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy seeks a diverse and well-rounded student body with a wide range of abilities and interests. The Admissions Office welcomes inquiries at any time. Campus tours and interviews are available by appointment.  NSA accepts qualified students without regard to race, color, ethnic background, national origin, handicapped status, or religion to all the rights, privileges, programs, activities, and policies.

Applicant Checklist
1.  Call or email the Admissions Office to schedule a tour.

2.  Submit the Application for Admission and all required documentation.  Admissions decisions are traditionally made within two weeks after application has been completed.

3.  For all candidates seeking admission to Kindergarten through Grade 12, confirm a test date with the Admissions Office.  During the Spring and Summer months, Testing Day and Kindergarten assessments are made by appointment.

4.  During the academic year, Middle School and Upper School candidates are strongly encouraged to shadow a Student Ambassador for a day.  To schedule an appointment to shadow, please call the Office of Admissions at (757) 539-8789 ext. 3355 to make arrangements.

The Admissions Committee cannot offer a decision until all facets of the process have been completed, including the timely submission of all required documentation.

Pre-Kindergarten 3 & 4 Program:
    * Must turn 3/4 years-old no later than August 20th of the year entering school.

   * Participation in an NSA playgroup or parent meeting.

    * Immunization records and up-to-date physical.

    * Independent toilet habits intact.

    *  Application fee: $50.


Kindergarten (Lower School)
    * Must turn 5 no later than September 30th of the year entering Kindergarten.

    * Indication of developmental readiness as measured by performance on readiness test.

    * Teacher recommendation from preschool.

    * Immunization records and up-to-date physical. 

    * Application and testing fee: $100


First Grade (Lower School)
    * Successful completion of a Kindergarten program.

    * Assessment of motor/ perceptual/ auditory/ developmental readiness.

    * Two recommendations from teachers/ counselor/ school administrator. 

    * Immunization records and up-to-date physical.

    * Application and testing fee: $100


Grades 2-5 (Lower School)

    * ERB Assessments in Reading Comprehension and Mathematics. 

    * Writing sample at the time of testing.

    * Demonstrated academic success as evidenced by the transcript.

    * Two recommendations from teachers/ counselors/ school administrator.

    * Immunization records and up-to-date physical.  

   
* Application and testing fee: $100


Grades 6-8 (Middle School)
    * Candidates are strongly encouraged to shadow a Student Ambassador for the day and meet with the Head of the Middle         School.  Arrangements are made through the Admissions Office.

    * ERB test results yielding an average score of 65th percentile in Reading Comprehension and Mathematics.

    * Writing sample at the time of testing.

    * Demonstrated academic success as evidenced by the transcript.

    * Two recommendations from teachers/ counselors/ school administrator.

    * Immunization records and up-to-date physical.  

    * Application and testing fee: $100


Grades 9-12 (Upper School)

    * Candidates are strongly encouraged to shadow a Student Ambassador for the day and meet with the Head of the Upper School.  Arrangements are made through the Admissions Office.

    * ERB test results yielding an average score of 80th percentile in Reading Comprehension and Mathematics.  (The Admissions Committee will also consider PSAT and SAT results.)

    * Writing sample at the time of testing.

    * Demonstrated academic success as evidenced by the transcript.

    * Two recommendations from teachers/ counselors/ school administrator.

    * Immunization records and up-to-date physical.  

    * Application and testing fee: $100
