Mission & Values

Mission

We believe the goal of education is to cultivate well-informed, responsible, and compassionate persons who think and act constructively in a complex international environment. The Academy provides an educational environment that is academically rigorous and driven by intellectual curiosity; that cultivates among its members social awareness and the virtues of responsibility, respect, compassion, and honor; that fosters a lifetime commitment to learning and service; and that instills a sense of pride in individual and group accomplishment. The ultimate goal is for each student to reach his or her potential: academically, physically, emotionally, socially, morally, and creatively.

Values

The cultivation of compassionate and morally responsible citizens in our complex society is central to Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's mission. To this end, an emphasis on values has become an integral part of daily life at the school.

Beginning in the Early School and continuing through the twelfth grade, lessons that focus on compassion, respect for others, respect for the environment, honesty, manners, and decision-making are included in the classroom, in assemblies, in seminars and workshops, in club activities, and in athletics.

A Values Committee composed of students, faculty, and administrators meets regularly to address issues and plan activities that enhance values education at NSA.
