Contacting Teachers During the School Day

If you should need to contact your child's teacher during the school day, we ask that you call the receptionist in either the Upper School or the Lower School. The receptionist will put you through to your teacher's voice-mail or should there be an emergency- contact the classroom directly. Teachers email addresses are available in the directory section of this website. Teachers are instructed to check their voicemail and email daily.

Emergency Closing Hotline: Call 539-8789

Emergency Closings Basic Procedures

In the event of an EMERGENCY CLOSING the following will be considered standard policy:

1. Every attempt will be made not to close until 12:00 noon.
2. Announcements will be made on radio and TV stations immediately. (WTKR, WAVY, WVEC, WTAR, WFOG)
3. In the event of closing for bad weather, before School opens on the following day, an announcement will be made on the above stations by 6:45 a.m.
4. "Telephone Trees" will be activated immediately in either event.
5. For bus students, it is important that an older sibling or friend (who rides the same bus/carpool) should be designated as "babysitter". A neighborhood house for shelter and safety should be designated if a parent is not home. It is also helpful for carpool parents to determine in advance who would pick up students.
6. NSA has a Crisis Plan in place for a "Lock Down" or "Mass Evacuation". In the event of a situation which would require the evacuation of students, all students would be transported by school buses to the Open Door Church located at 816 Kings Fork Road, Suffolk, Virginia. (757) 934-2671.

Telephone Tree

Each year parents are requested to complete a form for participation in the telephone tree. The telephone tree is used to notify parents in the event of an emergency School closing. In such an event, it is impossible to reach each parent and the phone trees are vital to communicating the situation. Families are asked to review procedures with their child(ren) in the event of school closing for weather or other emergencies. It is strongly suggested that EVERY family participate in the Lower School telephone tree.
