NSA Celebrates its 23rd Annual Art Show and Sale

Suffolk, VA January 23, 2009- Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s Annual Art Show & Sale will open on Saturday, January 31, 2009 and continue through Sunday, February 8, 2009. This will mark the 23rd anniversary of the Art Show & Sale benefiting the Academy’s Fine Arts and Endowment Program. Each year the show draws crowds from throughout Hampton Roads and is a showcase for new and established artists. NSA boasts a wonderful diversity of mediums from over 180 artists. Prices will range from $25 to $7,000. While the works of art adorn the school hallways and make the school look beautiful, teachers will also use the Art Show & Sale as an opportunity to incorporate the art and artists’ displays into their curriculum.

This year’s featured artist is Ms. Dorothy Fagan. Ms. Fagan is known for her color and for her views of the fleeting light and coastal marshes along the Chesapeake and for her vistas of the mountains and streams of the Appalachians. She lives and paints in Mathews County, Virginia, en plein air and in the luminist style. Her paintings are influenced by American Impressionists such as: Elliot Clark, George Innes and Martin J. Heade.

Committed to inspiring creativity and care of the earth, Fagan’s work has been featured in two PBS specials and is included in over two hundred private collections in the U.S., England, Lebanon and Canada. Her paintings are in collections of the City University of New York, General Electric, First National Exchange Bank, International Paper, Emory University, Longwood College, Monarch Bank, TowneBank, AAA and Coldwell Banker.

Additionally, Fagan’s paintings have been included in juried exhibitions at The Pastel Society of America, The Pastel Society of Canada, The Virginia Museum of Fine Art, The Virginia Contemporary Museum of Art, The G.V.W. Smith Museum of Art, Knickerbocker Artists, the National Arts Club, the Copley Society, the American Artists’ Professional League and the Hermitage Museum.

A gifted motivational speaker and workshop leader, Fagan is also the author of several popular books including: The Suncatcher, Dinner with the Muse: The Yellow Door Cottage and The Ping Journal.
