NSA GRADUATES 78 SENIORSSuffolk, VA June 6, 2009- Weeklong festivities culminated Saturday with the graduation of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s Class of 2009. Valedictorian, Alexander Stamatios Dakos and Salutatorian, Skylar Norman White, joined NSA alumnus, Mr. J. Carney Hawks ’92 and Head of School, Colley W. Bell III, to offer words of wisdom to the 78 seniors who would gather one last time as high school students. Top Honors were awarded to the following students: Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award: Alumni Association Scholarship Winner: TCIS All-Academic Team: Oberdorfer Drama Award, For Outstanding performance in Drama, Given in memory of Arda Pond by Mr. Wayland Pond and family: Girls’ Athletic Cup, For Outstanding performance in Girls’ Athletics: Boys’ Athletic Cup, For Outstanding performance in Boys’ Athletics: Spirit Cups, Awarded to the young man and the young woman who represent the essence of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Given by Mr. Cabell Birdsong and family: History Cup, For Outstanding Performance in History: Science Cup, For Outstanding Performance in Science: Art Cup, For Outstanding Work in Art: Music Cup, For Outstanding Performance in Choral Music: Music Cup, For Outstanding Performance in Band: Patricia Ruffin House Foreign Language Cup, For Outstanding Performance in Foreign Language: Mathematics Cup, For Outstanding Performance in Mathematics: Claudia S. Hawks English Cup, For Outstanding Performance in English: Nachiket Surendra Patel Cup, Given to the student who best represents Nachiket’s goals to take all knowledge as their objective and to show the gentleness and encouragement that are the finer spirit of all wisdom: Douglas C. Naismith Leadership Award, given in honor of Dr. Douglas C. Naismith, President of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy from 1989-2005. The Douglas C. Naismith Cup is awarded each year to the senior who has exhibited the leadership and dedication to excellence characteristic of Dr. Naismith’s tenure as President of the Academy: Salutatorian: Valedictorian: Pre-graduation festivities began on May 22nd with the Senior Day Awards Ceremony followed by the Alumni Association Senior Breakfast and Baccalaureate Service held Friday, June 5th. ### |
